On August 18, 2026, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB) held a meeting with a published author and poet to discuss a special cultural and literary project exploring the profound influence of Ancient Egypt and the Great Sphinx of Giza on the renowned poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
The meeting focused on the author’s forthcoming book, Rilke and the Art of Looking, which will include a chapter dedicated to Rilke and the Sphinx. As part of the project, the author plans to visit the Sphinx with a photographer to create a classic black-and-white, large-format photograph of the Sphinx’s face to introduce the chapter.
The project takes on particular significance in 2026, the centenary of Rilke’s death, offering an opportunity to revisit the enduring connection between his literary legacy and the monuments and cultural heritage of Egypt.
During the meeting, ECEB discussed the project and possible avenues of support and coordination to facilitate this cultural initiative in Egypt.
Through initiatives such as this, ECEB continues to support projects that bring Egyptian heritage into dialogue with world literature, art, and intellectual history, highlighting Egypt’s enduring influence on generations of writers, artists, and thinkers around the world.
عقد المكتب الثقافي والتعليمي المصري بواشنطن، في ١٨ أغسطس ٢٠٢٦، اجتماعًا مع أحد الكُتّاب والشعراء لبحث مشروع ثقافي وأدبي متميز يتناول التأثير العميق الذي تركته الحضارة المصرية القديمة وأبو الهول بالجيزة في الشاعر العالمي راينر ماريا ريلكه (Rainer Maria Rilke).
وتركز اللقاء حول كتاب المؤلف المرتقب Rilke and the Art of Looking، والذي يتضمن فصلًا خاصًا عن ريلكه وأبو الهول. وفي إطار إعداد هذا الفصل، يعتزم المؤلف زيارة منطقة أبو الهول برفقة مصور لالتقاط صورة فنية كلاسيكية بالأبيض والأسود وباستخدام التصوير ذي القطع الكبير لوجه أبو الهول، لتكون مدخلًا بصريًا للفصل.
ويكتسب المشروع أهمية خاصة في عام 2026، الذي يوافق مرور مائة عام على وفاة ريلكه، بما يتيح فرصة لإعادة إلقاء الضوء على الصلة المتميزة بين إرثه الأدبي والحضارة والآثار المصرية.
