On September 17, 2026, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB) was pleased to attend the exhibition “El Marsam: Modern and Contemporary Art from Egypt,” hosted by the Middle East Institute (MEI) in Washington, D.C.
Curated by Heba El Kayal, "El Marsam" explores the origins and evolution of Egypt’s modern art movement and its continuing influence on contemporary artistic practice in Egypt and across the Egyptian diaspora. The exhibition takes its name from the Arabic word “Marsam” (المرسم), meaning “studio,” reflecting the studio’s role as a space for creativity, dialogue, and exchange among generations of Egyptian artists.
Featuring more than 45 works across painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, and collage, the exhibition brings together historically significant figures alongside leading and emerging Egyptian artists, highlighting the diversity, richness, and technical sophistication of Egyptian artistic production.
Particularly significant is that "El Marsam" represents one of the first exhibitions at a U.S. public institution dedicated exclusively to Egyptian modern and contemporary art, offering American audiences a unique opportunity to experience Egypt through the eyes of the artists who have shaped—and continue to shape—its modern cultural life.

يستعرض المعرض، الذي قامت بتنسيقه هبة الكيال نشأة وتطور حركة الفن المصري الحديث، وامتداد تأثيرها على الممارسات الفنية المعاصرة في مصر وبين الفنانين المصريين في المهجر.
ويستمد المعرض اسمه من كلمة “المرسم”، باعتباره مساحة للإبداع والحوار وتبادل الخبرات بين أجيال مختلفة من الفنانين. ويضم المعرض أكثر من ٤٥ عملًا فنيًا تتنوع بين الرسم والنحت والتصوير الفوتوغرافي والكولاج، ويجمع بين أسماء ذات أهمية تاريخية في الحركة الفنية المصرية وفنانين مصريين بارزين وواعدين من الأجيال المعاصرة، بما يعكس ثراء وتنوع وتميز الإنتاج الفني المصري.
وتكتسب هذه الفعالية أهمية خاصة باعتبارها واحدة من أوائل العروض التي تستضيفها مؤسسة عامة في الولايات المتحدة والمخصصة بالكامل للفن المصري الحديث والمعاصر، بما يتيح للجمهور الأمريكي فرصة متميزة للتعرف على مصر من خلال عيون الفنانين الذين أسهموا في تشكيل حياتها الثقافية الحديثة ولا يزالون يواصلون إثراءها حتى اليوم.

Expanding Academic and Research Partnerships: Mansoura University & Northeastern University
On September 14, 2026, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB) facilitated a meeting between Mansoura University and Northeastern University to discuss opportunities for developing academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.
The meeting enabled both universities to exchange perspectives on their academic priorities and explore potential areas for joint research, academic programs, faculty and student mobility, training and capacity building, and other areas of mutual interest.
The discussion is part of ECEB’s continued efforts to create direct institutional connections between Egyptian universities and leading U.S. academic institutions and to support the development of sustainable partnerships.

ويأتي الاجتماع ضمن جهود المكتب المستمرة لبناء روابط مباشرة بين الجامعات المصرية والمؤسسات الأكاديمية الأمريكية ودعم تطوير شراكات مؤسسية مستدامة.
Building New Academic Connections: Port Said University & Northeastern University
On September 10, 2026, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB) facilitated a meeting between Port Said University and Northeastern University to explore potential areas of academic and research collaboration.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both institutions to present their academic and research strengths and identify areas of mutual interest. Discussions explored potential cooperation in joint research, academic programs, faculty and student mobility, capacity building, and other collaborative initiatives.

Exploring Collaboration between Menoufia University & Northeastern University
On September 10, 2026, ECEB facilitated a meeting between Menoufia University and Northeastern University as part of its ongoing efforts to expand connections between Egyptian and U.S. higher education institutions.
The discussion focused on identifying potential areas for academic and research cooperation, joint initiatives and programs, faculty and student engagement, and opportunities for knowledge and expertise exchange.
Both sides discussed their areas of interest and potential pathways for developing an institutional relationship that can lead to mutually beneficial academic and research activities.
وفي ١٠ سبتمبر ٢٠٢٦، قام المكتب الثقافي والتعليمي المصري بواشنطن كذلك بتنسيق اجتماع بين جامعة المنوفية وجامعة نورث إيسترن، في إطار جهود المكتب المستمرة لتوسيع شبكة التعاون بين مؤسسات التعليم العالي المصرية والأمريكية.
وركز اللقاء على تحديد فرص التعاون الأكاديمي والبحثي، وتطوير المبادرات والبرامج المشتركة، ومشاركة وتبادل الطلاب وأعضاء هيئة التدريس، وتبادل الخبرات والمعرفة.

On September 9, 2026, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB) held a meeting with the University of Chicago to explore potential opportunities for academic and research collaboration with Egyptian higher education and research institutions.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on areas of mutual interest and discuss potential pathways for cooperation, including joint research, academic programs, faculty and student engagement, capacity building, and other collaborative initiatives that could connect the University of Chicago’s academic and research expertise with Egyptian institutions.
The discussion also focused on identifying appropriate mechanisms for establishing institutional connections and developing areas of cooperation that can evolve into sustainable and mutually beneficial partnerships.
