On August 18, 2026, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB) held a meeting with a published author and poet to discuss a special cultural and literary project exploring the profound influence of Ancient Egypt and the Great Sphinx of Giza on the renowned poet Rainer Maria Rilke.

The meeting focused on the author’s forthcoming book, Rilke and the Art of Looking, which will include a chapter dedicated to Rilke and the Sphinx. As part of the project, the author plans to visit the Sphinx with a photographer to create a classic black-and-white, large-format photograph of the Sphinx’s face to introduce the chapter.

The project takes on particular significance in 2026, the centenary of Rilke’s death, offering an opportunity to revisit the enduring connection between his literary legacy and the monuments and cultural heritage of Egypt.

Discussions highlighted the SMART Pharmacist Program and SMART Learning Academy, as well as the potential to explore an Egypt–U.S. pharmacy education consortium, connecting Egyptian and American schools of pharmacy and creating new opportunities for academic exchange and professional development.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to introduce their academic strengths and priorities and to discuss potential frameworks for cooperation. The discussions explored opportunities for academic and research collaboration, faculty and student exchange, joint programs and initiatives, capacity building, and other areas of mutual interest.

The meeting represents an important first step toward establishing institutional links between the two universities and identifying concrete opportunities that can be developed into sustainable partnerships.
